Take Your Home To The Next Level With Spray Foam

Spray foam is one of the most effective materials used for insulating residential and commercial buildings. Spray foam insulation’s air sealing properties are the primary reason for its superiority over other insulation products. In addition, the insulating value of foam is also higher than other types of insulation.

Are You Considering Taking Your Home to the Next Level?

Your attic is typically your best opportunity to save energy and improve the comfort of your home. By air sealing and insulating your attic with spray foam, you can stop many major air leaks and help to maintain the desired temperature throughout your home. There are dozens of holes in your attic around the plumbing and electrical lines, recessed lights, and your attic access. In fact, there are so many holes that when added together, they equate to leaving your front door wide open year round.

Depending on your attic, there are two ways of insulating and air sealing with spray foam. One is to insulate the underside of the roof system. The other is to insulate the floor of the attic. The advantage of insulating your roof system is bringing your entire attic into what is commonly referred as conditioned space. This is particularly important if you have heating and cooling equipment and ductwork in your attic. With this application, energy loss from leaky ducts located in the attic is essentially eliminated.

There are two basic types of spray foam insulation used in residential and commercial applications ā€” open cell and closed cell. Both are great insulators and both provide an excellent thermal barrier (think of a blanket) and air barrier. Closed-cell foam is waterproof and will not let water move through it and is most often used in crawl spaces and exterior applications. An excellent benefit of closed cell foam is that it prevents mold and mildew. Open-cell foam basically means the tiny foam cells are not completely closed, so while it provides an excellent air barrier, itā€™s best for attics and walls where moisture is not an issue.
